Woodruff was born on August 18, 1961 in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, the son of Frances Ann (Dawson) and Robert Norman Woodruff Jr., real estate agents.[1][2][3]
Woodruff graduated from the private Cranbrook Kingswood school in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan in 1979.
